Welcome to Chess
How about a nice game of chess? One of the world's most popular games this is a classic battle between
two opposing armies. It's a race to control as much of the board as possible and develop the most
attacking pieces so your army can attain victory! The game of chess originated around India and dates back to
the 6th century. Pieces were carved miniature elephants, horses, chariots and foot soldiers then. Modern
chess as we play it today dates back about 2000 years and is somewhat different than the ancient game. The
sweeping moves of the queen and the long reach of the bishops were not elements of the original game. Nor
were such moves as castling or capturing en passant. The moves of the remaining pieces however are nearly
identical to those of the older form of the game.
The object of the game is to capture the King of your opponents army.
Chess requires 2 players, an AI is not currently available for you to play against so we invite you
to find a friend to play with! The TrayGames version of Chess uses the international rules and standard
algebraic notation, which you can read all about in the How to play section.
